How to study Geography ?
Yes, " how to study?" you are reading the first article of the series.I'd like to get to the point before I extend the entrance.
First, I want to mention this: geography is not an easy lesson. Not just geography, but no course is easy. First of all, geography is a visual-based course. It's almost like there's no question you can't do it using visual diagrams in your head on everything from place shapes to local times. It is already a scientifically proven fact that when you work on subjects with DCR (draw, color, remember), you draw your own unique shapes and color them in your own way, the rate of remembering subjects is very high.
Since a geography course is a course that contains details and has subject integrity between its sections, it is necessary to be an active listener in every dimension of the course. The main thing is not to memorize various statistical information about place names that can be found in atlases and wall maps, but to explain the causes of geographical events and draw conclusions from these reasons. As in history, there are many details, and if you try to write them all down, it will waste a lot of time and will not be useful. In order to fully understand the subject, Long details are included in books with narration. It will not come directly as a question in the exam, but it is the parts written to understand the causal relationships of information. Read without jumping-work, but always focus on the core of the subject. By preparing small cards for yourself, write the very important information on these cards, hang it with colored postites, and make your next repeat both very quickly and much more efficient. Shortcuts save lives in verbal lessons.
In geography, general abstract concepts are less, concrete concepts are more numerous. As we study, we must choose examples from everyday life and from life. It'll make it easier for us to learn.
Prepare to study
Before you hit the books, drink a glass of water and eat a light snack to refresh your body. Turn off any electronic devices, and ask your family members for an hour of quiet time. By freeing your mind and surroundings of any distractions, you'll be able to focus on your studying.Use flashcards to learn key geography terms.
Geography has quite a lot of special terminology that it is important to get clear in your head. A good way to learn and remember terms and words is by using flashcards. Write one term onto a small piece of card or paper, with the definition and brief explanation written on the other side. Create these as you go and eventually, you will build up a good library of cards with key terms which you can then revise easily.- Once you have the cards then pick one at random and try to remember what it means, checking the back if you can’t. Once you have done this a few times you will find you can remember a lot more than before.
- For example, you could write “Oxbow Lake” on a card with an explanation of what this is on the reverse side.
Tackle the maps.
Quite often, geography exams require you to fill out locations and identify countries and cities on maps. Although maps can be difficult to study, there are some useful techniques that can help you to study them effectively and remember them.- Memorize your locations by shapes. For example, Italy can be recognized since it is in the shape of a boot.
- Learn the main cities first before focusing on the surrounding, smaller cities.
- Create acronyms to help you learn the names of locations.
- Listen to the world song by Yakko Warner to help you remember countries.
